Lake Champlain Basin Programme: What can we learn for Windermere?
12th March 2024
Many thanks to everyone who joined us in Ambleside or online to hear about The Lake Champlain Basin Programme and its potential relevance to tackling water quality challenges in Windermere. Thanks also to Ellen Kujawa and her former colleagues at LCBP for their thoughtful and detailed presentation.
We arranged this talk, along with time for questions and discussion, to help explore what we can learn from others about inter-agency work to tackle water pollution from a range of sources. LCBP is an excellent example of ambitious collaboration, crossing communities of culture and place, as well as international boundaries. They have been committed to detailed monitoring and research over decades to identify and target problems areas, and they invest a good deal in community engagement and decision making as part of their independent non-profit governance structure. If you are interested in how the lake and the catchment are doing , you can read their most recent State of the Lake Report.
There is such a lot here that should inspire working together for change around the Windermere catchment.
If you would like to watch a recording of the event or see the slides that were presented, please use the links below. The sound on the recording is not great, unfortunately. If this leaves you with any questions please, come back to us.
We would love to hear from you if you want to get more involved in our community voice work around water quality: franrichardson@cumbriaaction.org.uk. Maybe have a look at our Toolkit for Community Action on Water Quality, if you're not sure what you could be doing!
