BASIS

The BASIS 'Developing Youth and Rural Organisations in Cumbria' project ran from 2009 through to 2013. Funded by the BASIS Big Lottery Fund, it brought together three partners: ACTion with Communities in Cumbria, Cumbria Youth Alliance, and Young Cumbria. The purpose was to strengthen the specialist infrastructure services that they provide to voluntary and community sector organisations supporting children and young people and rural communities throughout Cumbria.

Over the four years the partners have made a step-change in the quality and sustainability of their infrastructure services. This has enabled them to help improve the performance and sustainability of the organisations that they have supported during the project, and continue to support now and into the future.

The partners have supported over 570 organisations through bespoke support including training sessions, seminars, workshops and group visits, based on the following:

  • Business and Project Planning
  • Funding and Fundraising
  • Setting up and Running an Efficient Organisation
  • Governance and Trustee Responsibilities
  • Achieving Quality Standards
  • Safeguarding Policies and Procedures

Over the course of the project almost 50 organisations were supported to achieve a quality standard. Many fed back that as a result of the support, they had seen improvements in their operation, service delivery and / or sustainability:

BASIS "helped and supported us to gain a quality mark for our organisation. This helps us to show that the work that we deliver is up to standard and that shows external bodies that our organisation has appropriate management, quality assurance and operation practices. Thank you, you are all STARS for supporting our organisation over the years"
