Parish Profiles

These profiles were compiled using census data from 2011. It has not been possible to update them. Looking at this data is still interesting, but the figures are out of date. You can access up to date data on your area through the Cumbria Observatory: http://www.cumbriaobservatory.org.uk/ or with the Office for National Statistics. ONS: https://explore-local-statistics.beta.ons.gov.uk/

These profiles bring together quantitative data for individual parishes in Cumbria, to help when deciding which actions and activities to prioritise locally.

Each report is broken down into the following themes: Social and cultural; Equity and prosperity; Economy; Housing and the built environment; Transport and connectivity; Services; Environmental; Governance. Click on the links below to view profiles for parishes in your area.

Each of the sections shows parish-level data compared with local authority and national averages, and trends over time, where data is available. The data is intended to help you discuss questions like:

  • Where are we now?
  • What change has taken place in the past?
  • What are the strengths (and weaknesses) in our community?
  • What changes would we like to see in the future, and what needs to be done?

These profiles have been commissioned by Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) and produced by Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI). OCSI have developed datasets for all rural communities in England, including parishes, towns and villages, using the Office for National Statistics (ONS) definitions of parishes and urban areas. Each profile includes a map showing the ONS definition

Please note, due to the data available, it is not possible to produce separate reports for some smaller parishes. The data for these parishes has been incorporated with that of a neighbouring parish. Where this has occurred, we have indicated which parishes are affected in the list of reports by district and each individual file name.

Please also note there is an error on page 16 of all reports: The estimated number of households in Fuel Poverty has been updated on pages 16 and 33. The up to date Fuel Poverty definition and source reference are correct on page 33 but have not been updated on page 16.

ACTion with Communities in Cumbria has chosen to make these parish-level profile reports available free of charge, to support communities planning for their future. For more information about how your community can plan for its future, visit our Community Led Planning page.

For local authorities and agencies working across a number of parishes please contact ACT for rates to produce a specific report.

The Cumbria Intelligence Observatory also has Parish Profiles using the same data and you may also find their analysis useful: www.cumbriaobservatory.org.uk
