Why

Lack of public transport links severely impacted the lives of residents and, for some, their ability to continue to live in the village. Campaigning for a bus to Penrith has enabled people to continue to live in the village, attend medical appointments, shop and socialise as well as bring new people into the village.

What difference did the project make?

• “Connected to nearest town without having to drive a diesel van” – better for the environment
• More sociable on bus
• People can remain in the village but also stay connected, able to access shops and appointments, education, visit other places
• People can get bus to the village from Penrith and enjoy its facilities and events
• Lady with Parkinsons “not as dependent on other people for lifts to appointments”
• Mother “got two boys, can now use the bus into town – helps them become independent”
• OAP “had to give up up driving earlier in the year, lost independence, didn’t want to have to move as all my friends are here and I have a nice life here”
