Garsdale Village Hall
Category: Community buildings
Garsdale Village Hall.
Where
Garsdale.
Who
Garsdale Village Hall trustees.
Why
We want to use this important community resource to further enhance the isolated local community of Garsdale, helping to bring people closer together in a social setting and to celebrate important social events. We want the hall to be used in ways people need and want.
When
The hall is available throughout the year. We have had a number of new trustees join in 2024/25.
What are you most proud of?
Continuing a long history of social interaction since the original school closed at this site in the 1980s.
How did you get people involved?
An Open Day was held in May, so that local residents could visit and contribute to ideas for future activities. The event was advertised on social media, posters around the community and word of mouth. This was very well attended and many innovative ideas were put forward for consideration over tea and cake!
What difference did the project make?
The positive feedback was a great encouragement to existing volunteers as well as identifying others who may choose to get involved in the future. We now have some ideas to take forward and enlist help to turn them into actual events.Residents are now more aware of the potential the Hall has and that they can contact us with new ideas throughout the year, knowing we will consider their contribution positively. A very large number of people attended the Elections in June, to vote on the Trustees to run the management team for the next year. This level of interest has been welcomed as a positive outcome of the Open Day.
What do you wish you had known at the start?
That ACT was available to give such impressive guidance and support.
What do you hope for the future of your project?
The Trustees are pleased to be working with ACT, who have been very supportive to ensure that the Village Hall remains up to date with the very best practices and is kept informed about any new resources that may become available for the benefit of the Garsdale community. We hope to be successful in using the Hall on a more regular basis and attracting additional income to make the hall self sustainable in the long term.
