Then and Now: Celebrating 75 years of ACT in 2023

What was happening for your community in 1948?
ACTion with Communities in Cumbria started in October 1948 so we are 75 this year. We will be celebrating our 75 years on the 8th September at Sunbeams in Penrith and we would like you to join us, either in person or online.
Then and Now Is the name of our celebration. We’d love to hear about what was happening in your community, in 1948, and how it has changed over the years
You can send us copies of photos, newspaper cuttings, memorabilia or memories of events in your own words; anything that was happening between 1948 - 1950 in your community. We're also interested in what is happening in your community now and if it relates at all!
We will be:
- sharing all the information we receive on our website
- presenting some of it on the 8th September
- working with an artist, to share the stories and themes at our event
Please only send us copies of things, because things may be precious to your community and we won’t be able to return things. You can send one or several items, along with your comments about Then and Now. We will be recognising contributions with commendations and prizes.

Entries conditions are as follows:
- The entry must cover something/s that happened in your community between 1948 – 1950 and have some words (and images) linking or contrasting that with what is happening now.
- We will not change the words attached to entries, but we may frame them in sections of entries entitled Positive changes, Ongoing challenges
- Language used must be publicly acceptable. We reserve the right to not use material that is party political or offensive
- All entries must have a named person, or organisation, a contact email and give permission to ACT to use the material provided.
- Entries from under 16’s/18’s must have parental permission to use the child's first name
- All entries must be submitted by email in PDF or by We transfer.
- Dependent on the number of entries there will be categories of commendation and awards.
- All School and under 16 entries will be recognised.
