Safeguarding and Elimination of Volience Against Women

Safeguarding and Elimination of Volience Against Women

24th November 2025

Today marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) affects 1 in 12 women and girls every year and, in rural areas, domestic abuse can last 25% longer than in urban areas before it is reported. Due to factors such as social isolation, women and girls in rural settings may be less likely to report VAWG at all with rural women and girls being 50% less likely to report experiencing abuse than women and girls in urban areas.

ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT), the rural issues and community development charity for Cumbria, is seeking to raise awareness of the support available for rural women and girls who have experienced VAWG in Cumbria. To do this, we have created a series of posters which outline the support available in different areas across the county which are free to download, print, and share from our website. Separate posters have been created for each area to help raise awareness of the support available locally for people living in those areas.

Please feel free to share these resources with your networks to help improve awareness of the incredible organisations working across Cumbria to support those affected by VAWG.
