Liverpool University Students deep dive into rural issues
3rd May 2023
ACT is delighted to have worked with 60 second year students from the Planning Department of Liverpool University.

When they visited Cumbria in March, we introduced them to our work with communities, exploring the issues that affect rural areas and the actions people who live in them are taking to tackle their concerns.
Dr Catherine Queen, Lecturer in Planning, who organised the trip says, 'I brought the students to Cumbria to experience real-world rural planning issues. The ACT workshop and case studies were really good in getting the students to reflect on existing interventions and how they might be transferable to other scenarios. It was great to see the students looking so engaged and interested throughout.'

For ACT, Fran Richardson ran the session, with Lorrainne Smyth contributing remotely. Fran says, 'The students used our work as a way in to a range of issues from rural isolation and an aging population to poor public transport infrastructure and housing affordability. They all took a fresh perspective away with them. We look forward to building on this relationship to help another group of future Planning professionals get an insight into the realities of rural living.'
