Free charity guide to banking

Free charity guide to banking

2nd April 2026

CAF Bank has created a free guide to finding the right bank for your charity.

For many charities, financial management is about more than just keeping accounts balanced. It involves ensuring money is handled responsibly, supporting long-term sustainability, and making sure systems work efficiently for staff and volunteers. Managing a charity’s finances comes with daily pressures, and understanding your banking options shouldn’t add to that complexity.

The new guide from CAF Bank explains the key things charities should consider when choosing or reviewing their banking arrangements. It is written with the charity sector in mind and provides straightforward advice to help organisations make informed decisions.

The guide covers:

  • Key banking considerations that every charity should be aware of
  • Practical guidance on choosing the right banking solutions for your organisation’s needs
  • Clear explanations of common banking features and services
  • Advice to support better financial planning and resilience

CAF Bank is fully owned by the Charities Aid Foundation, registered charity no. 268369

Charity Finance Group

Charity Finance Group (CFG) produced this useful guide: 'Communicating with your bank - Raising an issue or Concern'. Designed to support charitable organisations to communicate with their bank and, if necessary, to help them through the complaints process; it also explains how to escalate an unresolved issue to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

There's still time to respond to the CFG 2026 Charity Banking Survey.  Responses will provide powerful evidence to drive change with banks, regulators and government. The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete and all data will be anonymised. The findings will shape CFG's policy work and practical resources to better support charities nationwide.
