We need farmers and community groups in the Lake District who are interested in farming culture and heritage in their community.

ACTion with Communities in Cumbria is partnering with the University of Cumbria, National Trust, Herdwick Breeders Association and the Farmer Network in a project to assist farmers in the Lake District to discuss and clarify their social and cultural capital. How do local people feel about the hedgerows, barns, flower meadows and farming practices that take place in their local area? How do farmers link with their local community to understand and explain the value people place on these things?

We are looking for communities and farmers who are interested to look at the culture and heritage in their area around farming practice. We hope to hold discussions with local schools, village halls and other local groups, in ten areas across the Lake District, leading to a small local exhibition to celebrate the things each community thinks are important about the farming culture and heritage in your community.

These activities will take place in March/April 2022 using a short video and information booklet and can be supported by a small grant to put the exhibition together.

This project is funded by the Lake District National Park with a Farming in Protected Landscapes grant.
