Cumbria Community Transport Conference a resounding success!

17th April 2026

On Tuesday 10th March, Sustainable and Integrated Transport for Ullswater (SITU) held its Cumbria Community Transport Conference at The Quiet Site, Ullswater.

It was wonderful to see so many community transport groups and local organisations coming together to hear from a range of inspiring speakers and engage in workshops designed to envision the future of community transport in Cumbria. Almost 100 people were involved in the event, attending in person and online which made for a terrific learning and networking opportunity. Particular thanks to the people who made presentations making it both interesting and enjoyable for everyone: Michael Firth from SITU; Alistair Kirkbride from Low Carbon Destinations; Rose Wheeler from Calder Valley Car Share; Roger Clarke from Hope Valley Climate Action; Philip Ayres from Cuckmere Buses; Graeme Innes from Cumberland Council; Tiff Battersby from Westmorland and Furness Council and Caroline Whitney from the Community Transport Association. Thanks also to The Quiet Site for providing a unique conferencing experience!

ACT was proud to support the event as part of our continuing commitment to supporting rural communities and rural community groups in Cumbria. We are looking forward to continuing to work with SITU and other community transport groups as conversations from the event progress.
