Coming soon – The Windermere Water Quality Toolkit for Community Action
5th December 2023
Improving water quality in the Windermere Catchment is important to communities, visitors and businesses who live in, visit and work there. It is also important habitat for wildlife and flora who are affected by pollution in and around the Lake.
Back in 2022 when the Windermere Citizens Panel met to consider the issues around the deteriorating water quality, they used words like 'empower', 'educate' and 'incentivise'. Following on from the Citizens Panel recommendations ACT has been working on a Water Quality Toolkit, to help communities and individuals take action.
The Toolkit will be for anyone who wants to learn how they can do their bit to help improve water quality. As well as explaining the science around the issues you can learn about what action you can take at home and at work to make a difference. Many people are actively involved in groups in the area who are interested in monitoring, improving habitats and reporting problems, for instance. You will be able to find out more about joining in local action.
The South Cumbria Rivers Trust is setting up a Community Partnership and have many years of experience in practical activities that help improve water quality and gathers data about what is happening in and around our rivers and lakes.
The Toolkit will be web based and we hope it will be live before the end of the year.
If this has whet your appetite for knowing more about water quality and what you can do to make a difference, then keep an eye on ACT news for the launch of the Windermere Water Quality Toolkit.
