The Lake Champlain Basin Programme: What can we learn for Windermere?

University of Cumbria, Ambleside Campus

Starts: Thu 22nd February 2024, 7.00 pm

Ends: Thu 22nd February 2024, 9.00 pm

“The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) is a Congressionally-designated initiative to restore and protect Lake Champlain and its surrounding watershed. We work with partners in New York, Vermont, and Québec to coordinate and fund efforts to address challenges in the areas of phosphorus pollution, toxic substances, biodiversity, aquatic invasive species, and climate change.” (Extract from the LCBP website)

We have an amazing opportunity to hear from Ellen Kujawa, from Cambridge University, about her work at the Lake Champlain Basin Program. There will be plenty of time to ask questions during and after the talk, which will cover:

  • The main ecological issues that catalysed joined up action
  • Identifying and controlling the key sources of nutrient enrichment
  • Community and volunteer involvement
  • Monitoring progress – ongoing challenges and successes
  • Citizen’s Advisory Committees as part of a complex governance structure

Everyone is welcome, but booking is essential.
