The Lake Annecy story

Lake Annecy

Machesi Centre, Holly Road, Windermere LA23 2AF

Starts: Wed 19th July 2023, 6.15 pm

We have been offered a larger meeting space for this event, so there are a few more places available to join us 'in person'. You will still be able to book for online attendance when we are at capacity.**

Come to the Thomas Bland Hall at the Marchesi Centre for an informal talk about Lake Annecy. You can also join this event online.

One of the most beautiful lakes in France, Lake Annecy, has an amazing journey to share. Join us to hear part of that story; how the vision and commitment of the community - working with local politicians, landowners, businesses and utilities providers - protected the natural balance of the lake to enhance the wellbeing and sustain the economy of local communities.

Mr Stanley Root has researched the lead personalities who made this transformation possible from the 1940’s and 50’s - the earliest days of global environmental awareness. Also a lover of the Lake District, Stanley is keen to share what he has learned to inspire community ambition action and across the Windermere Catchment.

This event is being facilitated by ACT on behalf of the Windermere Community Catchment Partnership, and is funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

We welcome questions in advance of the event – you will be asked if you want to submit questions when you book on. There will be time for discussion during the session. Questions for the speaker should relate to the Annecy story and learning from it. We may be unable to answer technical questions specifically about Windermere, on the day. We will endeavour to signpost or respond to questions after the event wherever possible.

Entry is from 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start. Tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available.

This a free event, but registration is essential and must be completed by 4.00pm on 19 July. Any questions please contact Dani Hall on 01768 425666 or email danihall@cumbriaaction.org.uk
