The government is currently consulting on a proposal to establish a Mayoral Combined Authority across Cumbria, and is keen for as many individuals and stakeholders as possible to get involved and respond to the consultation.
There have been face to face and online daytime events, ACT is now organising an evening, online event with Josh Walker, an official from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government who leads on new devolution agreements, to present on what this proposal means, the impact it could have in Cumbria, and to answer any questions.
What from we have heard already, devolution may not change the two unitaries in Cumbria and it’s not about going back to a County Council. Its more about having a strategic body, with additional resources, to look at issues across the two areas, such as:
- Housing and regeneration.
- Local growth.
- Adult skills (except apprenticeships).
- Local transport.
You can access information on the consultation here: Cumbria devolution - GOV.UK,
The easiest way to respond is through the online form: Cumbria Devolution Consultation - Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government - Citizen Space’
Please do join us to hear more and to raise any questions with the government officer responsible for the process.
This event is free of charge and open to all. Registration is essential and must be completed by 5pm on the 8th April to guarantee your place, you can submit questions in advance when you book. For security reasons the Zoom weblink will be emailed to you on the day.
