Community Led Planning
Community Led Planning is a tried and tested approach that helps local people to explore their needs, set priorities and plan actions. ACT uses experienced staff and tools developed from best practice to help communities work through the process and then to realise their aspirations.
Community Led Planning has a number of important characteristics:
- It is led, driven and resourced through grass roots action.
- The people working on community plans are volunteers - usually parish council members and local people.
- It is supported by ACT’s experienced independent facilitators and tool kits based upon national and local best practice.
- It involves extensive community participation and engagement using techniques such as questionnaires, meetings, discussions and newsletters.
- It brings together a well researched evidence base and in-depth consultation to underpin its conclusions.
- Its focus is on identifying actions that can be undertaken to tackle local problems and issues. These actions may be for individuals, community groups, the parish council, local authority or other public agencies.
Resources for Communities
ACT has a number of Guidance Sheets available to support communities through the Community Led Planning process. Other resources including case studies (written and video), and the ACT Gazette newsletter can be found under community resources.
Dentdale Parish Plan is a video interview with representatives from the community explaining why they decided to do a Plan, how they went about it, and what they have achieved.
