Description of Hall and village: Situated in the middle of the vilage, just past Post Office and village shop. It is a Memorial Hall built to commemorate the 1914-1918 war. Kirkby Thore village has links to the Romans, there was a fort and during digs part of the camps has been exposed some items in Tulle House at Carlisle. The cjurch of St Michaels dates back to 1100s and has the bell Big Tom, which came from Shap Abbey. There is a village school, shop, Post Office, Public House (Bridge End Inn) and a petrol station on the A66. Also, the gypsum works, which makes it more of an industrial village.
