Description of Hall and village: Askham Village Hall was built as a war memorial in 1927. It has been well used and much loved by generations of local residents. Although well maintained, it had become out dated and inconvenient. As a millenium project, funds were raised to fit a new insulated roof and double glazed windows. Since then full insulation has been installed and a new extension with disabled access to the car park, ladies and gents changing rooms with showers, disabled toilet and a reception area has been built, the kitchen modernised and new heating and lighting installed. Other improvements include new flooring, comfortable seating and light weight folding tables. The Village Hall is now suitable for many different events; plays concerts, dances and private parties, public enquiries and private parties. Askham and Helton are attractive Cumbrian villages in beautiful scenery, 5 miles and 6 miles south of Penrith respectively and easily accessible from the A6. They still have facilities no longer present in many villages: a general stores and post offices, 2 pubs, a swimming pool and a church. Bed and Breakfast and Guest House accomodation is available in the area.
