Description of Hall and village: Soulby is 2 1/2 miles from Kirkby Stephen. The village school closed in the 1970s and the building has been used as a community hall since that time. An award from the Big Lottery Fund enabled us to extend and completely refurbish the premises. We re-opened in 2004, since when the Hall has been very well used both by the village and the wider community. Its setting by the beck, with the children's playground and village green nearby make it a popular venue for family parties. We are part of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme and as such are able to bring live music, drama etc. to our area.
