Description of Hall and village: The hall is situated in a quiet rural village midway between Tebay & Kirkby Stephen on the A685. The village is bypassed and the hall is in the centre of the village behind a small green. There is a public telephone outside the hall and a post-box nearby. The hall was built around 1925 for the benefit of the local community. Newbiggin-on-lune public hall is a registered charity run by a committee of trustees which represent various organisations within the community, along with some elected and co-opted members. The hall is a non-profit making organisation for the use and benefit of the local community. The committee are committed to continually improving the facilities and standards of the hall for the benefit of others. Several fundraising events such as a Tatie pie supper, Christmas Coffee morning, Wine & savouries Evening, children’s disco and lots more are held throughout the year to boost the income of the hall and to cover all the costs of up keeping the building. In recent years grants have been obtained to upgrade and replace the kitchen, new central heating and new double glazed windows. New chairs were also bought last year and the committee continues to upgrade and replace facilities all the time.
