Description of Hall and village: Nenthead is the highest village in England and lies on the border of Northumberland, Cumbria and Durham. It has a population of around 400. The Hall was built in 1864 as a school and later used as the Village Hall. In 1940 a committee was formed and the building bought to use as a Village Hall, and it continues today, with a committee of 13 running it. We cater for dances, parties, weddings etc, alongside a bar and this is how we raise our funds to keep the upkeep of the hall going. It takes approx £2,500 per year first for insurance, heating and lighting, water rates, etc and in this day and age this is a big struggle.
