Community Planning
Community planning is a tried and tested approach that helps local people to explore their needs, set priorities and plan actions. ACT uses experienced staff and tools developed from best practice to help communities work through the process and then to realise their aspirations.
Community planning has a number of important characteristics:
- It is led, driven and resourced through grass roots action.
- The people working on community plans are volunteers - usually parish council members and local people.
- It is supported by ACT’s experienced independent facilitators and tool kits based upon national and local best practice.
- It involves extensive community participation and engagement using techniques such as questionnaires, meetings, discussions and newsletters.
- It brings together a well researched evidence base and in-depth consultation to underpin its conclusions.
- Its focus is on identifying actions that can be undertaken to tackle local problems and issues. These actions may be for individuals, community groups, the parish council, local authority or other public agencies.
