BASIS - Developing Youth & Rural organisations in Cumbria

Setting up and running an effective organisation

Setting up a new group is very exciting. However it can be a bewildering experience, so many options, so much information to consider, but where do you start?

We believe that all groups should adopt a legal structure which is appropriate for their needs and so we have developed a workbook called ‘Getting Going’.

This workbook is a starting point. It sets out the different options available and outlines some of the advantages and disadvantages of each. It also contains some activities which will help you clarify your thinking.

We have also developed a workbook on the types of policies and procedures you may need to put in place to ensure you groups runs effectively.

To find out more, visit the Resources section to access BASIS Workbooks, Quick Guides and other useful downloads.

If you are setting up a youth group you may need specific advice. Groups affiliating to Young Cumbria can access a specialist starter pack which includes templates for a range of specific policies and procedures. For more information or to discuss your requirements, contact the BASIS team or Young Cumbria directly.

We are also able to offer bespoke support through training workshops or individual support. If you would like to speak to someone to discuss your requirements contact the BASIS team.
