Cuts in health funding that
could see GP surgeries close across Cumbria must be reversed, says ACTion with
communities in Cumbria.
ACT is promoting a call by
its national body ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England), which says
the changes to the Minimum Practice Income Guarantee (MPIG) will hit the most
vulnerable rural residents.
Cumbrians are being asked to join an urgent campaign to continue government support for rural communities.
The campaign calls on the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to continue funding for the ACRE Network of Rural Community Councils (RCCs). The Network, which includes ACTion with communities in Cumbria, is the only nationwide network with a dedicated rural focus; building community resilience, strengthening local enterprise and supporting the most vulnerable in our society. In addition, the ACRE network is the sole provider of advice to the 80,000 volunteers who keep England’s 10,000 village halls alive.
