Communities and business along the north Copeland coast from Distington to St Bees are being encouraged to have a say in an online survey on how to invest funding to support the coastal economy.
ACTion with communities in Cumbria and Kolek Consulting are assisting the North Copeland Coastal Communities Team to develop an Economic Plan, to be used to apply for Big Lottery Coastal Community funding.
Hellen Aitken from ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT) was one of a delegation of five members of the ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) Network who attended the recent European Rural Parliament gathering in Schärding in Austria.
The delegation from England joined over 200 people representing 40 European countries to approve a European Rural Manifesto.
Committee members from Brough Memorial Hall were presented with their Hallmark One Quality Standard certificate at a recent village hall event run by ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT).
The national Hallmark Quality Standards Scheme recognises good management and practice by village hall management committees and can be used to demonstrate halls are run efficiently and are a real asset to their communities.
Volunteers from Cumbrian Village Halls and Community Buildings are invited to a free training event in Shap on Saturday October 17th, organised by ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT).
The event will offer advice on how Village Halls can make themselves more accessible to the whole community, ensuring everyone can make use of the building and its facilities. Workshops will look at both physical access requirements and also consider other needs people may have. A representative from the Alzheimer’s Society will be on hand to offer advice around welcoming and assisting those with dementia.
ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT) celebrated success with five community groups who have been providing valuable services in the county for more than ten years.
As part of ACT’s Annual General Meeting, ACT President Jolyon Dodgson awarded the five carefully selected groups with a Certificate of Sustainability, and a celebratory bottle of ‘bubbly’. Recipients then gave inspiring presentations to other community volunteers, support agencies and Local Authority representatives, sharing their experience and ideas for the future.
Five sustainable community projects will be celebrated at the ACTion with communities in Cumbria AGM on the 11th September at Threlkeld Village Hall. Participants from community groups across the county will come together to hear about these projects, their successes and challenges over the years – many have been running for over a decade There will also be a workshop on sustainability for community projects and a presentation from the national Village SOS Campaign and discussions on the changing nature of relationships with funders.
ACTion with communities in Cumbria, Churches together in
Cumbria and the Cumbria Rural Forum are working in partnership to promote
affordable warmth and reduce fuel poverty in Cumbria. Cumbria has 10% more than
the national average number of households suffering from fuel poverty, with latest
figures showing around 28% of households affected.
Local charity, ACTion with Communities in Cumbria (ACT) has achieved two national Quality Marks, in recognition of its good work in Cumbria.
The dedicated band of specialist advisers who support England’s 10,000 rural village halls are holding their annual training event in Stratford-Upon-Avon next month.
The two-day event, from May 12-13, brings together village hall advisers from 36 counties from Cornwall to Cumbria to share their knowledge and best practice.
